Every week, Lieutenant Governor Janice McGeachin of Idaho hosts a “Capitol Clarity” event in Boise to get voters more involved and informed about the political process. On February 25, 2021 she hosted a mock legislative hearing where regular Idaho citizens gained first-hand experience serving as a mock committee.

“As part of our effort to help empower Idaho citizens to be engaged and informed, this was a great opportunity to have this mock legislative hearing and vote on important potential legislation,” McGeachin said afterwards.

The citizens heard a presentation given by Sgt. Dan McKnight, a thirteen year veteran of the U.S. military who served in Afghanistan as a member of the Idaho National Guard. McKnight, founder and Chairman of BringOurTroopsHome.US, introduced a “Defend the Guard” bill which would prohibit the deployment of the Idaho National Guard into active combat without a declaration of war by the U.S. Congress.

The mock bill passed resoundingly with an 18 to 1 majority.
